No dia 16 de Maio de 2006, na manhã seguinte ao encerramento da segunda temporada, a ABC anunciou seu planos de colocar a terceira temporada de Grey´s Anatomy como carro-chefe das noite de Quinta-feira da emissora [1]. Sendo a Quinta-feira, há anos, o dia mais competitivo da televisão americana, essa mudança, segundo muitos analistas e críticos, prova o enorme voto de confiança que a série tem da emissora.

A mudança, entretanto, não foi impensada, pois a ABC já havia testado o potencial da série para as Quintas-feiras em 9 de Fevereiro de 2006, ao exibir, após o Super Bowl, o episódio “It´s The End of the World”. No dia 16 de Fevereiro, a Quinta-feira seguinte, a ABC repetiu a segunda parte desse arco, o episódio “(As We Know It)”.

Em ambos os dias, apesar de ter enfrentado gigantes do horário, como os seriados CSI e Without a Trace da CBS e o já tradicional seriado médico da NBC, E.R. – Plantão Médico, a série apresentou uma performance sólida, com as reprises mantendo, com segurança, o segundo lugar. Tal desempenho provavelmente foi essencial para que a emissora reposicionasse a série.
